THE TALE OF THE BPGP QUILT AND THE 3/8" SEAM

THE TALE OF THE BPGP QUILT AND THE 3/8" SEAM

Love them or hate them, Half-Rectangle Triangles (HRTs) are another amazing and versatile quilt block. Learning how to make them quickly and accurately can cut out a lot of pain later on! And I have to say that I LOVE THEM! I actually love all triangle blocks but these are definitely my favourite. But they're hard, especially the trimming.

Due to the ratio of my HRTs in the BPGP Quilt and the layout, I was able to trim as you would do a normal Half-Square Triangle and then use a 3/8" seam to join the blocks to each other.

This is absolutely an easier method for those who are new to HRTs and will ensure your points match. You will need to move your needle position on you machine to sew with this seam allowance. Please refer to your manufacturer's instructions if you do not know how to do this.

I have added the following video to explain why it works for this quilt and how you can calculate whether this method would work for you (if you are a quilt pattern designer).
